Episode 31: Daniel Bida, Zoo Share

Episode Summary

United Nations Association in Canada has the opportunity to learn more about the meaningful work that Zoo Share, North America’s first zoo biogas plant, does in transforming organic waste into fertilizer and renewable power for the Ontario grid from Daniel. Daniel is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) who spent the first five years of his career as a global power and gas utilities analyst focused on credit quality, and performance on environmental, social and governance metrics. Daniel has been active in the social enterprise sector since 2009 when he founded ReGenerate Biogas Inc., to develop biogas projects focused on maximizing the use of local waste and capital to produce renewable energy. As the Executive Director of ZooShare Biogas Cooperative Inc., Daniel has been successful in leading a team to raise over $4 million from more than 500 impact investors to build North America’s first zoo-based biogas plant at the Toronto Zoo. He lives in Toronto with his wife, daughter and dog, and enjoys travelling and being in nature whenever possible. Furthermore, Daniel also kindly shared how his interest in environmental issues has led to an incredible career in renewable energy.
